Small Tail Han Sheep Summer Management

At the start of summer, it's crucial to perform shearing and regularly remove waste from the sheep’s living area to prevent overheating. From this point on, we clean the shelter every morning and check the feces for signs of redness or parasites. Proper ventilation is essential, and thorough disinfection should be carried out regularly. After the sheep have grazed on fresh grass, most of them don’t need additional supplements unless they are weak or pregnant. However, these supplements shouldn’t be stopped suddenly; instead, they should be gradually reduced over time. During the summer solstice, grazing times are carefully scheduled to avoid the hottest parts of the day. The sheep graze at 6 a.m. in the morning and again at 8 p.m. in the evening. They are kept indoors during the midday heat, especially around 5 p.m., and return to grazing at 7 p.m. It's important to maintain good air circulation inside the barn and keep the area dry and not overcrowded. Providing fresh water or dandelion tea helps with cooling and detoxification. This season is often rainy, so it's vital to ensure the shelter remains dry and free of mud. Sheep should not be allowed to lie in damp areas, as this can lead to health issues. Prepare extra feed in case of bad weather. Avoid lambing during this time, as the saying goes, "No lamb in July, no lamb in February." Also, take precautions against heatstroke by keeping the environment cool and comfortable for the animals.
