The United States has found that supermorphic enzymes can enhance the body's ability to fight cancer

In a groundbreaking study published in the journal *Nature Science*, researchers from the United States have uncovered a new form of the Akt1 enzyme—referred to as "supermorphic"—that significantly enhances the body's ability to combat cancer. This discovery highlights the critical role of dendritic cells, which act as key regulators in the immune system by activating T cells that target cancerous cells. According to Dr. David Spencer, an associate professor of immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, the supermorphic Akt1 enzyme extends the lifespan of dendritic cells, allowing them to remain active longer and thus improve the immune response. "Dendritic cells are like the main switches in the immune system," he explained. "They determine whether the body mounts a strong or mild immune reaction against threats such as cancer or infections." Through extensive experimentation, Spencer and his team discovered that this enhanced version of Akt1 plays a crucial role in the survival of dendritic cells. By modifying the enzyme to bind more effectively to the cell membrane and removing an inhibitory component, they created a more efficient form of Akt1. This "super" enzyme was then delivered into dendritic cells using a specially designed adenovirus. The results were promising: the modified cells lived longer and functioned more effectively, both in lab settings and in mice. In one experiment, the super Akt1 enzyme helped eliminate aggressive tumors in some mice. Researchers also observed that the enzyme worked equally well on human dendritic cells in the lab. However, clinical trials for human treatment have not yet begun. Spencer is particularly interested in applying this enzyme to prostate cancer, a focus of his laboratory for many years. He also believes it could be effective against other types of cancer in the future. This breakthrough opens up exciting possibilities for developing new immunotherapies that harness the power of the immune system to fight cancer more effectively. As research continues, scientists hope to translate these findings into real-world treatments that can benefit patients.
