“There are two ways to face the future: one is filled with apprehension, the other with anticipation.” ~Jim Rohn

This morning, Brayden said, “Mom, today is New Year’s Eve! That means tomorrow is a brand-new year!” Honestly, I already knew that, but hearing him say it felt surreal—WHAT?! Today marks the final day of 2014, and it's been a fantastic year. I’m bidding farewell with gratitude, knowing it’s brought its own unique blessings. Tomorrow? Not just any ordinary tomorrow, but the pristine pages of a whole new year, eagerly awaiting what we’ll pen into them and the greatness we’ll uncover within ourselves.

This upcoming year, I want to create room for breathing and simply being. I’m optimistic about what lies ahead, though I know there will be tough moments too. Still, in every situation, I aim to stay present and true to myself. I want to embrace who I am fully and find joy in both where I stand and who I am becoming. Goals? Of course, I have them. But I refuse to trade my current happiness for chasing something further down the line. Life is meant to be lived fully, in the now.

Happy New Year!

Here’s a snippet from a recent piece I wrote for #fireworkpeople, and I thought it would resonate well here as well:

As our calendars flip to the last page of the old year and the first page of the new one unfolds, lists begin to emerge. Some homes might still feel like they're in the holiday spirit (mine included—I’m not quite ready to pack away the Christmas decorations yet), but these lists aren’t the kind Santa checks twice. Instead, they’re resolutions—our promises to ourselves to live better this year than the last. We’re crafting our blueprints for growth, deciding how we’ll step into this blank canvas of possibility.

I’m all for intentionality and making wise choices, but I don’t want to impose unrealistic expectations on myself—or you—for the new year. Let’s set goals by all means, but let’s also give ourselves grace. After all, it’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. Many times, the excitement of a fresh start can cloud our appreciation for the present moment, for who we’ve grown into and who we are right now.

You see, dear friends, you already possess everything you need to rise. That’s what makes a new year so thrilling. With each turning page of the calendar, we’re greeted with a vast, unmarked chapter of life waiting to be filled. It’s an invitation to pour our unique greatness into those pages—not by following rigid rules, but by dreaming boldly, igniting the fire within, and letting our hearts guide us toward leaving a meaningful impact on the world around us.

We have the chance to fill life’s pages with the greatness that’s already inside us.

This year, my focus is on presence. I know 2015 will bring its fair share of highs and lows. There will be victories to celebrate and challenges to navigate. I won’t shy away from rejoicing in the wins or learning from the setbacks. However, what about the quiet moments in between? Those spaces where life feels routine, mundane even. It’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of daily life, either overwhelmed or distracted by distant horizons. Yet, it’s in those everyday moments that we often miss the beauty right before our eyes.

Give yourself permission to be authentically you in the new year.

This year, I believe in your ability to soar. I trust you’ll reach for your dreams and etch greatness into the pages of 2015. And as you do, remember to savor the journey. Enjoy who you are, embrace where you are, and revel in the simple joys of living.

Happy New Year!
