Just the other day, we signed Baby Blue up for swim lessons. She’s not exactly a baby anymore, but I guess we’re still calling her that because she’ll always be our little one. Anyway, the lessons are going better than I anticipated—she’s absolutely loving every second of it!
She’s such a natural in the water—it’s almost like she was born to paddle around! Even though the instructor is giving her directions, she doesn’t seem to mind at all. In fact, she’s probably having too much fun to pay attention to anyone telling her what to do.
Oh, and let me tell you, making friends came naturally to her again! There was this other little girl splashing around nearby, and before we knew it, they were tossing water droplets back and forth like pros. It was adorable to watch—they seemed to hit it off right away.
Now, here’s the thing—I’m actually really glad we signed her up for these lessons. Our backyard pool has become her favorite spot during the summer, and while she’s usually cautious around it, accidents happen. And yes, they’ve happened more than once. But don’t worry—we’re always supervising, and she knows how to stay safe.
The goal is for her to feel confident enough to get herself to the edge of the pool if something happens. Of course, I’ll never leave her alone to figure it out by herself. That’s just not how parenting works, especially when it comes to water safety.
But honestly, knowing she’s learning essential skills makes me feel a lot better. Plus, she’s clearly enjoying herself, and that’s what matters most. If anything, this experience is teaching her independence while keeping her safe.
