Each m3 of biogas is equivalent to the calorific value of 0.91 kg of agricultural diesel. Biogas is used as a fuel for internal combustion engines and is characterized by smoke-free, ash-free, low pollution, and good anti-knocking properties. In an internal combustion engine of the same working volume, the power obtained when using biogas will not be lower than that when diesel is used. Therefore, it is scientific and possible to convert an ordinary single-cylinder diesel engine into a biogas-diesel dual-fuel diesel engine.

1. Modification method

After converting the small-horsepower single-cylinder diesel engine into a biogas-diesel dual-fuel engine, when the dual fuel is operated, biogas is mainly used, and only a small amount of diesel is used to ignite the compressed biogas and air mixture. The original machine compression ratio (18:22) and the injection advance angle are unchanged. Only the air intake system needs to be modified, and a biogas and air mixer device can be installed after the original air filter. The mixer consists of a manual valve that controls the supply of biogas and a tee.

2. How to use and precautions

(1) How to use it. 1 start. The biogas valve is closed and diesel is started according to the original starting method of the diesel engine. The operation method is the same as before the unmodified. 2 operation. After the start, bring the load, place the throttle of the diesel engine at a suitable position (usually at a lower position in the middle). After the engine is running normally, slowly open the biogas valve and input the biogas. After the biogas is input, the fuel supply under the governor is automatically reduced, and the engine speed is stable. If too much biogas is input, the engine will be interrupted for a short period of time and intermittent operating noise will be produced. In this case, the biogas valve should be turned down slightly until normal operation. In the process of operation, the method of adjusting the speed is the same as that before the conversion, and the position is adjusted by changing the position of the accelerator grip. With the change of speed or load size, it is necessary to open or close the biogas valve accordingly to ensure normal operation and better fuel economy. When the engine cooling water temperature is low and the low-load operation, the fuel-saving effect is poor. 3 Shut off the biogas valve first and then close the throttle.

(2) Operational precautions. 1 Check biogas valves, gas pipelines, joints, etc. frequently for leaks, so as to avoid fire or even an explosion. 2 Operate the biogas valve to be steady, and do not change suddenly to avoid instability caused by the different amount of biogas entering the engine. 3 During the operation of the engine, it is necessary to constantly check the changes of the load and the pressure of the biogas, and the operator can adjust the biogas valve at any time according to experience and feeling, and stabilize the rotation speed so as to achieve an ideal fuel saving effect. If the operation is properly used, it can save 80% to 90%, otherwise the fuel saving rate is only 50% to 60%. 4 When the gas supply is insufficient or other reasons need to rely entirely on diesel, the engine does not have to be shut down; just shut off the biogas valve and use it according to the general diesel engine operation method.
