In regions with large-scale aquaculture, there have been incidents of "seedling theft," which has led to increased prices for wild squid and reduced seasonal price fluctuations for Scutellaria baicalensis. As a result, aquaculture profits have declined. After the rice harvest each year, the number of wild locusts caught increases, but their selling price drops. At this time, many farmers purchase hawks and other birds. In winter, larger oysters are sold, while smaller ones are kept for farming the following year, helping to ease supply pressures and create more profit opportunities. Maintaining wild Astragalus and accurately assessing the quality of wild salmon is crucial for successful cultivation. However, the ability to judge wild squid quality is still not very precise, and proper handling during collection is essential. Improper handling directly affects the survival rate of the squid in the pool and plays a key role in the success of the entire process. Many farmers have only a superficial understanding of the collection, storage, transportation, treatment, and counting of wild jaundice. They often mistakenly believe that these creatures are highly resilient, leading to improper collection and treatment, which can cause early failures in cultivation. This issue was common in the past. Farmers must understand and follow several critical steps: collecting and transporting, grading and selecting seedlings, and observing and preventing diseases based on the specific life cycles and physiological characteristics of Astragalus. This ensures the safety and success of the cultivation process. **Collection and Transportation** Wild jaundice suitable for rearing can be collected using cage trapping, grass trapping, electric trapping, or manual methods. Fishing should not be used. It's best to use locally caught carp, preferably small field town fishermen who sell freshwater carp. Avoid buying eel-like fish. Contact local catchers to learn how to store the captured animals. Use a large basin or build a simple brick pool in a room, cover the bottom with plastic film, add 3–5 cm of water, and include plants like water hyacinth or peanuts. Place the captured oysters into the basin or pool, and change the water daily (keeping the temperature difference within 3°C). This method helps keep them alive for several days before being sold for breeding. When transporting seedlings, use loose containers like bamboo baskets, add some water and soft grass. If the journey is long, change the water midway and avoid rough handling to reduce stress. **Grading and Selection** Once the seedlings arrive, they should be placed in water immediately. The ratio of yellow cockroaches to water should be at least 1:4, and the water temperature should be adjusted carefully to avoid drastic changes. Place the sizing screen in a slightly larger pot, pour the water and pot into the screen, and gently sift the scutellariae by hand. Smaller ones will pass through the screen. During grading, look for signs of injury, lesions, mucus loss, parasites, or inflammation. Any animal showing such symptoms should be discarded. **Disease Observation and Prevention** After grading, place the squid in Dianchi Lake. After 1–2 hours, spray Quanbao Antivirus Vanguard and repeat every 10 days. For the first 2–4 days, apply “Banbao Rotten Skin Bleeding” by soaking in warm water for 30 minutes before feeding. Feed with quail, fly maggots, liver, fish, river fleas, or snail meat. Add “Zibao Rotten Bleeding Sanitizer,” “Saibao Virus Clear,” and vitamins to the feed for three consecutive days. Attach the medicine to the bait using a special adhesive at a dosage of 0.5–1% of the Astragalus’s body weight. Gradually increase the amount the next day. Place the bait on the grass area or directly in the cement pool. Create multiple feeding points to ensure all animals get enough food. When the quail starts eating normally, introduce “Salmonella Gills” for 3–5 days. During observation, cover Dianchi Lake with shade nets to create a dark environment. Monitor water quality closely and replace it when necessary to maintain freshness and stable temperature. After 15–30 days of observation and culture, healthy and stable specimens can be moved to a fattening pond. As water temperatures drop below 10°C in late autumn, the yellow locusts begin to hibernate. At this point, larger oysters are harvested for sale, while smaller ones are kept for the next season.
