Aloe Vera Planting Technology

Aloe is a perennial, evergreen, succulent herb belonging to the Liliaceae family. Native to the arid regions of Africa, it thrives in harsh conditions such as drought, low nutrition, and cold climates. Today, many regions across our country have established cultivation and production bases for this valuable plant. Aloe vera is renowned for its high medicinal value and has shown promising therapeutic effects on various severe diseases, including cancer, leukemia, cerebral thrombosis, epilepsy, schizophrenia, and diabetes. There are several methods for cultivating Aloe vera, including greenhouse planting, open-field cultivation, potted plants, and soilless farming. Below are the key steps involved in its cultivation: First, proper soil preparation is essential before planting. Site preparation should be done in conjunction with chemical weeding and soil disinfection. These processes are typically carried out about 20 days prior to planting. After that, apply 20 cubic meters of organic compost per acre, mix it thoroughly into the soil 2-3 times, and level the ground to create raised beds. The bed width should be around 1 meter, with the length depending on the terrain (whether it's a greenhouse, open field, or other setup). For greenhouses and indoor setups, the furrow width should be 35–40 cm, with a depth of 25–30 cm. In open fields, the furrow width is 40–45 cm, and the depth ranges from 25–35 cm, with a 10 cm raised ridge. Second, the best time to plant Aloe vera is between March and May in spring, or September and November in autumn. These periods allow for quick root establishment, usually within a week after transplanting. It's recommended to perform transplanting on cloudy days to reduce stress on the plants. Third, planting can be done using 10–15 cm tall offsets or seedlings. Initially, plant 5 rows per bed with a spacing of 15 cm x 15 cm. Six months later, when the seedlings reach 20–30 cm in height, they should be transplanted again, with 3 rows per bed and a spacing of 30 cm x 30 cm. After one year, when the plants are about 50 cm tall, they are transplanted once more, with 2 rows per bed and a spacing of 60 cm x 60 cm. When planting, dig large holes, water immediately after planting, and ensure good survival rates. Fourth, post-planting management is crucial. Maintain an optimal temperature range of 15°C to 28°C and humidity between 75% and 85%. Irrigation, drainage, and fertilization should follow the principle of "less but frequent" application. Fertilize more often in spring and autumn, while reducing it in summer and winter. Adjust according to the age and size of the plants. Weeding can be done alongside cultivation. In winter, if temperatures drop below 5°C, take protective measures to prevent frost damage. By following these practices, Aloe vera can be successfully cultivated, ensuring both quality and yield.
