How to Fertilize Vegetable Crops?
Greenhouse vegetables, such as peppers, cucumbers, and eggplants, are cultivated in a controlled environment that supports strong growth. To achieve high yields and superior quality, it’s essential to ensure a consistent supply of nutrients. For instance, producing 10,000 kilograms of cucumber requires about 2.5–3.0% organic matter in the soil, along with 27.3 kg of available nitrogen, 13.0 kg of phosphorus, and 34.7 kg of potassium, plus a balanced mix of micronutrients. Enhancing soil fertility, maintaining nutrient balance, and boosting soil productivity are key to successful greenhouse farming. But how can we improve fertility effectively?
1. Use well-decomposed organic fertilizers. This is the foundation of soil improvement because organic fertilizer provides a full range of nutrients. In greenhouse vegetable production, it not only supplies essential elements for plant growth but also helps activate soil nutrients and improve soil structure. However, it's crucial to fully decompose the organic material (using products like Goldbeet starter) to avoid any negative impact on the crops.
2. Apply decomposed human waste. Nitrogen is a vital element for plant development, especially during flower bud formation and fruit thickening. Human feces and urine, when properly decomposed using a starter like Golden Baby, are rich in nitrogen and widely available. They can be mixed with water and used during the growing season, providing excellent results.
3. Incorporate biological bacterial fertilizers. Although total soil potassium and phosphorus may reach 180 kg and 120 kg per acre respectively, most plants cannot directly absorb more than 10–20% of these nutrients. Using microbial fertilizers helps break down organic matter and convert insoluble minerals into forms that plants can use. High-quality biological fertilizers, such as konjac-based ones, are essential for producing clean, chemical-free vegetables. Combining new greenhouse soil maturation with regular applications of bio-fertilizers has proven effective: applying 7.5–10 kg of high-quality organic bio-fertilizer per area leads to stronger plants, more fruits, longer harvesting periods, and long-term benefits throughout the growing season. The results are truly remarkable.
