How to make the pig less sick

How to Keep Pigs Healthier and Reduce Disease Risks Pigs are highly susceptible to diseases, and even the healthiest pig can suffer financial losses once it gets sick. To address this issue, farmers have started using a method called the "Golden Retriever" fermentation bed system for raising pigs. This innovative approach not only improves the pigs' immunity but also enhances their resistance to diseases. The fermentation bed is made from sawdust and wood chips, which provide a comfortable environment that stays cool in summer and warm in winter. It’s not only safe and healthy for the pigs but also helps them gain weight more quickly. To create the bed, sawdust and soil are mixed in specific proportions, along with an active agent, salt, and a small amount of rice bran or distiller's grains. The mixture is adjusted to reach about 60% moisture, allowing beneficial microorganisms to thrive. After about a week, the fermentation process begins, and the bed remains clean without needing to be changed every year. Within a few days of feeding, the microbial activity reduces the odor in the pigsty, and fly breeding is significantly reduced. After 20 to 30 days, the bottom of the bed starts to naturally reproduce, forming a layer of white mycelium. The temperature inside the bed can reach 50–60°C, effectively killing harmful bacteria and pathogens. The surface temperature is maintained between 25–30°C, creating a comfortable living space for the pigs. As a result, the pigsty becomes much cleaner, and the pigs no longer suffer from bad smells. The overall environment has been greatly improved, making the pigs healthier and more comfortable. The fermentation bed creates a consistently warm and fresh atmosphere, like a perpetual spring, which benefits both the pigs and the farmer.
