Organic tea garden base selection points
(1) The origin of organic tea should be located far from urban industrial zones, towns, residential areas, and major transportation routes. The region must have effective soil and water conservation measures in place. Organic tea plantations should be surrounded by lush forests, rich biodiversity, and be situated away from pollution sources, ensuring a strong capacity for sustainable production. There should be no obvious or potential pollution sources nearby, especially upwind of the area and upstream of rivers, to guarantee clean air and water quality.
(2) A clear and effective isolation zone must be established between the organic tea plantation and any conventional agricultural areas to prevent contamination. Natural barriers such as mountains, dense vegetation, or artificial buffers like planted forests and crops can serve as ideal isolation zones. Any crops grown within these zones must follow strict organic farming practices to maintain the integrity of the tea plantation.
(3) The soil quality of the tea garden must meet all environmental standards, with favorable physical and chemical properties and high potential fertility. Loam, sandy loam, or oil sand soils are preferred. The tea garden should not have used chemical fertilizers or pesticides for at least the past three years. The air in the production area should be fresh, with abundant vegetation and access to natural organic fertilizers, supporting long-term ecological balance.
(4) The producers and operators of the tea base should have a solid foundation in sustainable and environmentally friendly production techniques. Large-scale operations need to have sufficient labor resources and access to clean water sources, which are essential for maintaining high-quality organic tea production.
(5) Tea gardens should be well-organized, covering a significant area, and planted in a standardized and systematic way. Healthy tea trees with strong growth and minimal pest or disease issues are crucial for producing premium organic tea. Proper management and care ensure that the tea remains pure and of high quality throughout the growing season.
