Organic tea garden base selection points
(1) The origin of organic tea should be located far from urban industrial zones, towns, residential areas, and major transportation routes. The region should have good soil and water conservation, surrounded by lush forests and rich biodiversity. It must be away from any pollution sources and possess strong sustainable production capabilities. There should be no obvious or potential pollution sources nearby, especially upwind of the area or upstream of rivers, to ensure a clean and safe environment for organic tea cultivation.
(2) A clear buffer zone must be established between the organic tea plantation and conventional agricultural areas to prevent contamination. Natural barriers such as mountains, forests, or vegetation are ideal for this purpose. Artificially created buffers like tree lines or specific crops can also be used, provided they follow organic farming principles. This separation ensures that the organic tea remains free from chemical residues and external influences.
(3) The soil quality in the tea garden must meet strict environmental standards, with favorable physical and chemical properties and high potential fertility. Loamy or sandy soils are preferred. The area should not have been treated with chemical fertilizers or pesticides for at least three years. The air should be fresh, rich in natural vegetation, and close to abundant organic fertilizer sources, ensuring a healthy and nutrient-rich growing environment.
(4) The producers and operators of the tea base should have a solid foundation in sustainable and environmentally friendly production techniques. Large-scale operations need access to sufficient labor and clean water sources, which are essential for maintaining high-quality standards and efficient management.
(5) The tea gardens should be well-organized, covering a sufficient area and planted in a standardized and systematic manner. The tea plants should exhibit strong growth, with minimal pest and disease problems. This ensures both high yield and superior quality, making the tea more desirable in the market.
