How to eliminate the common troubles of feed crusher
First, check the power outlet, plug, and power cord for any signs of damage, such as discoloration, burning, or physical breaks. If everything looks intact, connect a power supply tester to verify that the outlet is functioning properly. Next, turn on the motor without starting it, and manually rotate the light-toggle wheel. If it turns smoothly, proceed with further checks.
One common issue is a faulty start capacitor. If one of the two start capacitors has lost its capacity, this usually occurs in newer units. In such cases, the motor may not start properly, but you might still be able to turn the wheel by hand. Another symptom is when the motor doesn't rotate on its own, but applying external force allows it to turn, while the motor emits a faint humming or current noise. This is typically caused by a slight leakage in the start capacitor.
If the noise is too loud, the motor might not start at all, which could indicate a shorted start capacitor. In severe cases, the motor coil itself may be damaged, requiring professional repair. If you don’t have access to specialized tools, you can test the capacitor manually. Remove the capacitor (4UP/400V), then insert its two leads into the live and neutral sockets of the power outlet. Allow it to charge for a few seconds, then quickly short the two leads to discharge it.
If you see a strong spark and hear a clear "click" sound during discharge, the capacitor is likely still functional. However, if the spark is weak or absent, the capacitor may have lost its capacitance and needs to be replaced. In some cases, adding a smaller capacitor in parallel might help temporarily. If the capacitor is completely shorted and cannot be used, it must be replaced with a new one of the same specifications.
