The pelletization process ensures better nutrient retention, easier storage, and improved feeding efficiency.
In terms of structure, pellet feeders can be broadly classified into two types: ring die and flat die models. Large and medium-sized feed pellet machines typically use the ring die design, which offers higher production efficiency and better pellet quality. On the other hand, small-scale or home-use pellet feeders often use the flat die structure, which is simpler, more cost-effective, and easier to maintain.
Ring die pellet feeders are known for their efficient operation and durable pellet surface hardness. However, they require more complex manufacturing processes, leading to higher costs. Flat die models, while less efficient in processing speed, are more user-friendly and affordable, making them ideal for small farms or hobbyists.
When purchasing and using a pellet feeder, it's important to follow several key steps to ensure safe and effective operation:
First, check the tightness of the machine’s chassis and frame. Ensure that the motor (or diesel engine) is securely attached to the base. For flat die machines, focus on the assembly of the template screws and the pellet cutter. For ring die models, verify the fastening of the ring die, press wheel bracket, and press wheel.
Second, inspect the auger system. Turn on the machine and feed some powder through the inlet, then observe the auger from the inspection port to check for any foreign objects. Manually rotate the auger shaft to ensure it moves smoothly without any grinding noise.
Third, test the sealing of the hopper door. Open and close the door repeatedly to ensure it operates smoothly and seals tightly. Pay special attention to the connection between the pressurizing chamber and the powder feed auger, ensuring there is no powder leakage and that the door locks securely.
Fourth, perform a safety check. Many large and medium-sized pellet feeders come equipped with a safety interlock system. If a foreign object enters the ring die, the main shaft resistance increases, triggering the safety bolt to break and cutting off power to prevent damage. Fifth, conduct a test run. After a successful no-load test, perform a load test by feeding an appropriate amount of powder into the auger and monitoring the current draw of the spindle motor to ensure the machine runs under moderate load.
Lastly, inspect the final product. The pellets should have a smooth surface, uniform shape, and no cracks. They should be hard enough to resist crushing by hand, and the size should be consistent, with a minimum qualification rate of 95%.
