The United States built the first human nerve cell tissue system The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine established the first human nerve cell tissue system, which constructed living cells into a network. The researchers point out that it takes only a few days for this mesh to be transplanted into the body for repairing damaged nervous systems.
Nerve cell transplantation is the most promising approach to the treatment of neurological damage, including neurodegenerative diseases. In previous studies, animal model tests have confirmed that they are available, but there is still a lack of bridges from individual to large-scale applications: for a large number of patients with neurological damage, there are few sources of neurons that can be used for repair. Now researchers have built a three-dimensional neural network that resembles a small nervous system that can be transplanted in large quantities in the clinic. The researchers obtained 4 thoracic neurons from organ donors, and acquired spinal nerve ganglion neurons from 16 patients who underwent gangliontomy. They were purified and placed in a specific growth chamber. The stretch growth technique allows the axons to slowly stretch over a period of time until the desired length is reached. These neurons survived for at least 3 months, during which time action potentials were maintained. The electrical signal is transmitted along the nerve fibers, along with the elongation of the axons, the first human living tissue structure is created.
The researchers also confirmed that both autologous and allogeneic methods of acquiring nerve cells are equally feasible, experts said, demonstrating the effectiveness, feasibility, and controllability of human nerve cells as a selective nerve graft material. . ——Shanghai Medical Device Industry Association
