Morphological Characteristics:

Oncidium Luridum is a perennial evergreen herb that typically grows to a height of 20–30 cm. It features densely clustered pseudobulbs, which are flat-ovate or oblate in shape and can reach up to 12.5 cm in length. These pseudobulbs often display red or brown spots. At the top, it produces 1–3 leaves that are elliptic-lanceolate in shape, measuring about 37 cm long and 12.5 cm wide. The plant produces racemes, which emerge from the base of the pseudobulb. These stems can be 30–100 cm tall, erect or curved, and sometimes even branched. The flowers vary in size, with a diameter of around 2.5 cm. Their lips are usually yellow, white, or brownish-red, and they bloom for about 20 days, producing dozens of flowers at once. Due to their delicate, fluttering appearance, they are often referred to as "Dancing Orchids."

Ecological Habits:

This orchid thrives in warm, humid environments and is drought-tolerant. It prefers high humidity, with ideal growth and flowering temperatures ranging between 15°C and 28°C. Growth may slow down or stop if the temperature drops below 8°C or rises above 35°C. Direct sunlight should be avoided, especially during summer, when 50% shading is recommended. In spring and autumn, 30% shading is sufficient, while full light in winter helps promote blooming. For large-scale cultivation, maintaining an air humidity level of around 80% is most beneficial.

Geographical Distribution:

Oncidium Luridum is native to the tropical regions of the Americas, particularly Brazil, the United States, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. However, its natural range extends beyond these areas, covering tropical, warm, alpine temperate, and even cold climates. There are approximately 400 wild species in the Oncidium genus, most of which are found in tropical America and are widely cultivated in tropical regions around the world.
