Description:

Oncidium Luridum is a perennial evergreen herb that typically grows to a height of 20–30 cm. It features densely clustered pseudobulbs, which are flat-ovate or oblate in shape, measuring up to 12.5 cm in length and often marked with red or brown spots. The plant produces 1–3 terminal leaves that are elliptic-lanceolate, reaching 37 cm in length and 12.5 cm in width. Its inflorescence consists of racemes that emerge from the base of the pseudobulb, with stems ranging from 30 to 100 cm in length. These stems can be erect or curved, sometimes even branched. The flowers vary in size, with diameters typically around 2.5 cm. Their lips are yellow, white, or brownish-red, and they bloom for about 20 days, with dozens of flowers per bloom. Due to its elegant and graceful appearance, it's often called the "Dancing Orchid."

Growing Conditions:

This orchid thrives in humid and warm environments, and it prefers high humidity levels. The ideal temperature range for growth and flowering is between 15°C and 28°C. Growth may slow or stop if temperatures drop below 8°C or rise above 35°C. It should be protected from direct sunlight; during summer, 50% shade is recommended, while 30% shade is sufficient in spring and autumn. In winter, full light exposure helps promote blooming. For large-scale commercial cultivation, maintaining an air humidity level of around 80% is most effective.

Native Habitat:

Oncidium Luridum is originally native to the tropical regions of the Americas, particularly Brazil, the United States, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. However, its natural range extends beyond these areas, including tropical, warm temperate, alpine, and even frigid zones. There are approximately 400 wild species in the Oncidium genus, mostly found in tropical America and widely cultivated in tropical climates worldwide.
