Pig lingual inflammation therapy
Pork tongue inflammation, commonly referred to as "tooth teeth," is a condition that affects newborn pigs, characterized by the formation of blisters along the edges of their tongues. This disease primarily occurs in very young piglets, and most affected animals are weak and unable to nurse properly. As a result, they often starve because they lack the ability or desire to suckle milk.
The condition can be quite painful for the piglets, causing them to avoid feeding altogether. If left untreated, it can lead to severe dehydration and even death. However, with prompt and proper care, recovery is possible.
A common treatment method involves several steps. First, one person holds the sick pig securely, while another gently forces its mouth open. A third person then manually pulls out the tongue and uses a surgical tool or tweezers to carefully scrape off all the blisters. It's important to be thorough during this process to ensure complete removal of the infected tissue. Afterward, the affected area is treated with iodine glycerin, which should be applied two to three times daily to prevent infection and promote healing.
During the treatment period, the piglets must be fed artificially, as they are unable to nurse on their own. With consistent care and attention, most pigs typically show improvement within 3 to 4 days and gradually return to normal behavior and feeding patterns.
This condition is not only painful but also highly contagious among piglets, so early detection and isolation of affected animals are crucial to prevent the spread of the disease. Farmers and caretakers should remain vigilant and seek veterinary guidance if symptoms persist or worsen.
