California suffered the worst frosted grape in history or reduced production by 50%

According to the Paso Robles Wine League, local frost weather occurred from April 8th to April 10th. It is expected that the grape production will be reduced by 30%-50%.

Stacie Jacob, executive director of the Alliance, said: “The temperature is as low as minus zero during the frost, which is the worst frost in ten years. Although the growers have taken the best management measures, they still cannot control the forces of nature.”

Tobin James wine cellar owners stated that many early grape varieties, such as pinot noir and some white grapes, were seriously affected. Some vineyards in the Paso Roble area may fall apart this fall.

Jacob said that it will work with industry associations to fully evaluate the loss, and that disaster levels can be set by the end of May or early June.
